Open Thread: OSU at Penn State

Oregon St. Beavers @ Penn St. Nittany Lions

Anyone have plans for watching the game? CV3000 does. Like last week, if you'll be on your computer during the game, this is the place for you.

Comcast ABC HD freakout?

I’m slightly tweaked at the moment… bought an HD projector and have been counting down the days to this game. I turned it on only to find that the HD version of ABC is “experiencing technical difficulties”. Anyone else having the same problem (Comcast)?

by sangdorange on Sep 6, 2008 12:34 PM PDT   0 recs

Wish I could help

But I have dish network.

by Jake on Sep 6, 2008 12:34 PM PDT   0 recs

Three completed passes

No first down.

--JB--

by Jake on Sep 6, 2008 12:37 PM PDT   0 recs

Yeah he does

But you’d think three completed short passes would produce a first down

Is the projector working yet, orangemocha?

I assuming it is since you’re commenting on the game….

Hekker is soooo terrible

How long does it take to punt the dang ball?

by DaButcha on Sep 6, 2008 1:58 PM PDT   0 recs

Wow

You guys are in for a long season.

Go Lions

by SweepTheLeg on Sep 6, 2008 1:59 PM PDT   0 recs

Something positive

Hopefully we can look a bit better in the second half. We are not going to win this game but it would be nice to come out of it with something positive.

by DaButcha on Sep 6, 2008 2:01 PM PDT   0 recs

Agreed

And a nice punt would be great.

I'm not one to rub it in, but CV3000 was a bit off target

Here’s what y’all posted pre-game, courtesy of CV3000, compared to what’s happening:

  • a fringe top 25 team not very far removed from a 3-win season and several recent losing seasons

Hmmm, seems like it was a bit too soon to judge PSU based on one blowout of a cupcake.

  • the owner of a huge stadium

True.

  • a respected name—for their play in the last century

True, but not too bad these days, either. History doesn’t win or lose games, though.

  • a team with 20% of its roster charged with a crime in the last year

Yeah, and how many of these guys are still on the team? Your boy Alfalva didn’t seem to miss much time for his DUI.

  • a team with 20% of its starters being investigated for drugs THIS WEEK

A dorm party broken up, a bit of pot found, and a handful of roaches taken as evidence. Yeah, dumb situation and bad publicity, but getting caught with a little weed is about on par with underage drinking. What, you don’t rock the ganj in Oregon? I’ve been there, y’all smoke more pot per capita than any place I’ve been.

  • a team without a quarterback

Premature conclusion. A team without an incumbent, experienced QB. I guess your defense took this head in the sand approach, too, because they’ve barely touched Clark. Clark is a redshirt junior who’s probably 5 years removed from high school because he went to prep school to get eligible. Never dismiss a first-time starter with that much time under his belt.

  • a team with experienced, though incredibly average, receivers

Then why haven’t you done more than break up a couple of passes?

  • a team with a superior offensive line

True.

  • a team with a great defensive line—when they’re not suspended/jailed

And you guys so underestimate the reserves that you don’t bother blocking them.

  • a team with a questionable secondary

Probably true. Doesn’t matter if you tank for a 3 and out half the time.

  • a team that runs practically the same offense that Joe Paterno ran as a high school quarterback (he seriously ran a shotgun, no huddle offense in high school—that is not made up)

And y’all still can’t stop it.

  • a team whose fans get excited about wearing white—that’s about as boring as it gets, no offense intended

No comment necessary.

I think you have some serious reading comprehension issues.

And you totally missed the point of what was written.

But Jesus still loves you.

by CV3000 on Sep 6, 2008 2:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Nice

And some question the class of PSU folks.

And by the way CV… I was expecting a run down of why he has reading comprehension issues. In all seriousness what did he comprehend incorrectly? He was merely responding to your (very classy) list of Penn State facts.

And he totally missed the point? What point were you making? That we’re boring? Sure, besides the intense crowds, the tailgating, and the high-scoring offense, we’re pretty boring. But where does throwing in our criminal problems have to do with being boring? Quarterback-less? Huge stadium? If you’re going to post a list to make a “point” then at least comprehend it yourself.

45-14

Scoreboard. If you’re gonna talk trash, put up or shut up.

by gcdyersb on Sep 8, 2008 1:23 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No, not really

The part about a non-conference game being less important than a conference game, that’s totally understandable. Win or lose, this game doesn’t make or break anyone’s season. Point taken.

Now, making a list of why your opponent is irrelevant with false, misleading, or unfounded statements, that’s where things get derailed a little bit. If you want to say a game at PSU is not as important as at USC or Ohio State, that’s fine. If you’re going to disrespect the program and team, that’s opening up a can of worms that’ll get pretty rotten in your fridge with a 45-14 whooping.

I wouldn’t be surprised if your list was used as bulletin board material prior to the game. If so, nice work digging your team a hole.

I respected OSU for its consistent record in the PAC-10. The Beavers have produced in recent years. The fan base is not so easy to respect.

by gcdyersb on Sep 8, 2008 1:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

for the second half

can we give mcCants more than 3 carries? i know quiz is good, but why are we running him in between the tackles and having his brother block for him.

It seems as if Riley has lost faith in McCants or really believe in quizz
