Beavers get one in the first

Hopkins and Wong both struck out to start the inning, but Ortiz was hit, then two base hits scored Ortiz. Ogata then struck out to end the inning, but at least the Beavers got on the board first and gave Peavey a 1 run cushion.

Bottom 5th, still 5-0

I’m liking the way this game is headed…. Peavey is doing a good job on the hill.

Peavey done for the day

Great performance in his first start in about two months….

5.1 scoreless innings, four hits, four strikeouts, two outs

I meant 5-3.

USC scores another run… the Beaver lead is now 1. 5-4 Beavers in the fifth

Grbavac gets out of a jam

But the Trojans get four in the sixth and are right back in this game.

Seventh inning stretch time

Beavers still clinging to a one run lead

Pat Casey ejected

...he said about five words per MP

Rhoderick is coming in...

He needs to go 2 1/3 to save this game

Let them back into it

Tied 5-5, and really seemed to have this one under control until the last couple innings.

Yep

Peavey pitched good until he started to get tired. Then all this broke loose.

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 3:39 PM PDT up reply actions

End 7

Tied at 5. How much would it suck to be Pat Casey right now.

So any more details?

What happened with that? Ejected really?

-RVM

by rvm on May 18, 2008 3:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep,

Apparently he was arguing a check swing call, which is just like arguing balls and strikes (i guess). MP said it was one of the quickest ejections he’s ever seen (Casey got approx. 5 words in)

At least got out of that last one

With bases loaded was looking bad, but only one run damage.

Yep, need to get the bats going again.

Yeah,

but you hate to let the guys score by virtue of a HBP

Agreed

But just trying to see some bright side!

good thinking

we need to win this game in whatever way we can!

Nash will come in to pinch run

Looks like Bailey and Lees are calling the shots now

Hopkins walks

Wong comes to the plate, 2 on, 1 out

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 3:44 PM PDT reply actions

Nicely done for Hopkins

He has had a tough day at bat, so nice to work a walk.

Come on Rhoderick!

We need six more outs and one run!

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 3:48 PM PDT reply actions

Lead off walk

Need to cut down on those…

On a side note

Ellsbury’s streak ended today. Had a great single with bases loaded to break a tie, scoring two, but then was thrown out stealing and thrown out on a pitch out too (ouch!).

were you able to watch that?

just heard about it and saw it in the boxscore

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 3:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep

TBS I think it was on, fun game something like six HRs total for both teams before I turned it off during the 7th.

Two down, bases empty

Wallace, Robertson, Ogata due in the top of the ninth

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 3:55 PM PDT reply actions

Hoping

We can end it in the 9th, not all that excited about extra (but will take them if we have to).

-RVM

by rvm on May 18, 2008 3:56 PM PDT reply actions

same

Rhoderick has already had a longer than usual outing

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 3:58 PM PDT up reply actions

Robertson

Had a good day, could be the spark for this inning.

-RVM

by rvm on May 18, 2008 3:59 PM PDT reply actions

yep.

7-8-9 coming up for us in the top of the tenth when we get there

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 4:01 PM PDT up reply actions

Sac

Rhoderick gets the guy at first. winning run is at second.

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 4:06 PM PDT reply actions

okay

That was a terrible weekend…Going to need to get the remaining four I think. Shoot and I voted Green on your poll.

Should have not been swept this weekend.

-RVM

by rvm on May 18, 2008 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions

that's definitely not a good way to go out in our final Pac-10 series

If the selection committee would let us in for any reason, it seems like it would be because we finished the season on a hot streak. but we got swept in our final Pac-10 season.

--JB--

by Jake Bertalotto on May 18, 2008 4:18 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep

Hoping that if we can finish strong, which I’m afraid means a must needed win (repeating refrain here) tomorrow against Long Beach State who is ranked (correct?), then the entire/overall schedule could help the Beaver cause, oh and that we can take Pacific next weekend.

Hard to tell with things, but I feel this team has the talent and does play the top teams pretty well, so that if we can get into the post-season there is a good chance to make another run. But yes this weekend will not help the cause at all. Seriously I thought it could have been a sweep weekend, but was thinking the other team doing the sweeping!

-RVM

by rvm on May 18, 2008 4:25 PM PDT up reply actions

So

I’m a bit shocked in a way about the turn of events this last part of the season.

But I guess all-in-all it is a very good sign that we expect great things out of Casey’s teams now.
