All it takes is a few slices--Bring back the Cheese!
When I was a student during the Erickson era, I remember bringing and throwing sliced cheese. I'm trying to recall why? I think it was for a bad call by the refs, but Im not sure. Maybe we had a little too much drink and thought "It would be awsome to bring this package of singles and throw them during the game". I'm just kinda curious if anyone else remebers this short lived tradition or if we were the only ones doing it. Also, if anyone can remember any other old forgotten traditions.

It was for bad calls.
I also remember a dead duck landing on the field at the Joey5Picks game. Erickson didn’t like that one very much, but I did.

A real dead duck?
If so, that’s impressive.

Yes. A real dead duck.
I don’t know how they got it into the stadium. I don’t know how they threw it all the way onto the field.
I just know that I saw it with my own eyes. Erickson was pissed.

Why?
I mean, it’s not like a player did it. Fans are fans.
It’s fun seeing Dennis Erickson unsuccessful at ASU after his turnaround shit last year. I said it myself after the 2005 Fiesta Bowl that Charlie Weis would not be successful from then on.

How did you get from DE to Weis?

Sorry I forgot that I deleted a sentence in between.
Supposed to be something like “…a la Charlie Weis.” Then the following sentence. Sorry.

Not a problem!
I agreed with both even before the correction! Just thought it was an interesting jump the way it read!

I think he was afraid of getting some kind of penalty...
…which is kind of ironic.

Yes it is ironic!
Very funny seeing those two in the same sentence: “DE” and “afraid of getting some kind of penalty”!

Yep
Those were good times. I also remember during the 1999 Cal game when the Beavers hit the magical 6 win total that the Cal mascot made the mistake of walking along the student section and just missed getting hit in the head with a big bottle of Pepsi at some one from the fans threw at him/her/it.

Still have the ticket stub
One of my favorite games to attend was that Cal game. I remember standing on the sidelines waiting for that game to end and then the sprinting across the field. The ticket stub is still in my wallet.

Was that the year that a Cal player punched out the girl (!) in the Benny costume?

Nope
It seems that happened in 1995 (although SI apparently didn’t know there was difference between Oregon State and the University of Oregon)

Benny Beaver also has been de-emphasized since the switch before the 1999 season to the Angry Beaver logo
