Quotable: Washington State at Oregon State
Back in the saddie: First of all, I apologize for my recent hiatus. I've been sorta busy with other things, but apparently I needed a few days off after the Utah game. It's time for me to move on.... Olzeke, RVM, and VD all said it well in their respective posts.
That being said, here's a gathering of quotes for this Saturday's game at Reser.
Washington State on Oregon State
"If we can (move the ball), maybe get a few TOs, and take care of the ball, then we've got a chance to be in the game. And if we've got a chance to be in the game, we've got a chance to win the game.'' --Head Coach Paul Wulff
Oregon State on Washington State
"Thirty?'' said defensive lineman Slade Norris, referring to the point spread. "I didn't know that.''
"I think coach Wolff has that team going in the right direction. The good thing is our team will be fired up for redemption of some sort," coach Mike Riley said. The Cougars have had a rough go, but for us, we are getting ready to play our best game." --Mike Riley
"I don't see any one weak area, I really don't. I know what people say about them, but watch 'em play. Those guys can play. ... Despite what their record is, they are a great team. They've got some talent, and they've got some weapons.'' -- Victor Butler
"That's always scary, when you're expected to win by 30. We've got to treat it like any other game. Treat 'em like they were USC, or Penn State. But just like any other team, they're due for a win and we're going to try and make sure that doesn't happen against us.''--Lyle Moevao
"It's a Pac-10 game, and that truly means a lot to us, he said. We shouldn't be going out there thinking (it will be easy) because a lot is at stake, and I think WSU is going to come out firing. ... it's huge, for both of us." --Keaton Kristick
"We have to have a great week of practice, focus, and get back on track. ... we DO need to win this game, but it won't be handed to us on a silver platter." --Keith Pankey
Quotes, for the most part, from Kirkpatrick and Buker.
If there's on thing this tells us, it's that the Beavers definitely are not overlooking the Cougars. Either that, or the coaches gave each player a script to read from during media interviews.
Take it for what it's worth.
GO BEAVERS!

Personally
I think they are taking the WSU game seriously. This team has a good attitude, I mean they talked the talk about the need to win the Utah game and how much that game meant to them, and really they did deliver for 58 minutes (even after they got done in that first half).
I do think an issue becomes all this talk about 30 points favorite and WSU is horrible in the press does have the potential to plant a seed of over-confidence. But there is no question about this game and a W is needed to keep in the race.
Olzeke also previously noted that the schedule is very favorable now for the Beavs and I really agree for this month especially. We play WSU and there is no huge game looming (such as if we had to play USC) the next week for that is UW. Then the UW game goes into a bye before a bigger game with ASU. So it lines up well to take it one week at a time versus if we had WSU then USC then UW then ASU, then that could be a distraction.
On a side, but related, note-I don’t know maybe it’s just me but 30 points? That’s seems a bit ridiculous to me. Yes, WSU hasn’t showed much this year and yes they are struggling and sure the Beavs have the talent to win by that much, but at the same time it is a league game. But it is a “betting” spread so not really based on reality in my opinion.
Oh, and welcome back Jake!

Thanks, RVM
I wasn’t really gone, it’s just that I couldn’t get the gumption to write. One of those things, I guess.

Victor Butler?

I know you are supposed to give credit to your opponent but come on…calling Washington State a great team? Isn’t that a little patronizing?

Exactly
I mean, every team is good… but if we’re talking about relativity here, no offense, Wazzu isn’t that close.
But still, I’d rather have our guys saying that than saying that Washington State is a piece of crap or whatever.
