Favorite Moments
I'm having a hard time figuring out what I'm going to do tomorrow with no Beaver game on the slate. A couple good games on the slate (Texas/OkSt, LSU/UGA, USC/UA, Ohio St/Penn St) but it just doesn't feel right. I suppose I could always root for the Devils tomorrow.. but anyways, let's use this thread to discuss our favorite moments in Beaver sports. Stories and videos are encourage. And as always GO BEAVS

Lots of spilled drinks
Well, the event that immediately springs to mind is the 1998 double OT Civil War win. Though specific details are now vague, I just remember that being a terrific game. But then I thought about the win over USC two years, and I think that is the Big Kahuna. At least I was there for that one.
And perhaps diminished by time, but the 1985 football win at UW. I remember where I was, outside a fireplace shop in Everett listening to the radio. Mothers were clutching their children close and giving me a wide berth.

check that
That should be, “…over USC two years AGO..”. My brain, it doesn’t operate at a high level these days.
I’ll supply the obligatory heckle: “Whaddya mean, ‘THESE days’?” Thanks for coming.

I have a few great memories...
Baseball: I was in Omaha for the duration of the first NC. Always being on the brink of elimination and pulling it out the way we did was incredible. The second championship was awesome, but we did it in such dominating fashion that it didn’t have the same feel. It was never in doubt.
Basketball: beating Arizona at home a couple years back (2005-06 season) was pretty sweet, but winning the BB Civil War later in the year was awesome for the Sasa Cuic “tip”
Football: way too many to choose from. I feel like every Saturday is a gift. There have been many great games (06, 07 Civil Wars, beating USC 3 out of the last 4 times in Reser, beating Mizzou in the Sun Bowl, etc) but I think that the 2000-2001 season was so special that its really hard to say anything tops it. The only game we lost that year was probably the best game of the season. Having the first ever (and only) top 10 Civil War, the Fiesta Bowl smashing of Notre Dame, and finishing the season #4, when you really remember it all, it has to take the cake.

Good lists
The Mizzou game never gets the props it deserves. I mean, I know the Sun Bowl has zero atmosphere but wow, that was easily the best Sun Bowl in a very, very long time and won’t be eclipsed for a while. I still watch that tape and laugh at the shots of the Mizzou bench as they go from elation to “Wait, what?!” in about sixty seconds of game time. Great stuff. Great game.

You are correct sir
A fabulous game indeed. My favorite part of the “Mizzou bench” was the way Chase Daniel put that clean fresh towel over his head all precise-like and then went walking around accepting congratulations from his teammates, then a few minutes later along with the same teammates looked like he just had a close call with the captive-bolt dude. That was a “coachable moment.”

Do you Remember?
Do you remember when they stopped showing the game on CBS for President Ford’s funeral?
by ConnorOSU on Oct 25, 2008 8:05 AM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yep!
Mainly showed the car procession if I remember correctly!
I look at that this way and during that time the Beavs were not playing well and we didn’t miss much…and the best was that last quarter!
I totally agree though that this is one of the best football games ever that I watched and may well be the Beavs best bowl game.

My copies aren't great.
We’re talkin’ VHS my man. Still viewable but definitely not perfect. I think I have all of those games taped. Maybe not the 07 CW though.

Well covered so far...
You both have covered my favorite moments. Winning the ’98 CW was huge—I see that as one of the most important, dramatic games OSU has played in recent history. Very, very cool. I was watching it with my duck-crazed extended family with only my immediate family rocking the black and orange.
It was freaking sweet, not to mention a great push for a program that really needed it. What a day that was…
CWS #1 was amazing. I was a little choked up I was so happy to see that story unfold and end the way it did. Perfect.
CWS #2 was also amazing, however my reaction was laughter. I couldn’t believe it. Back to back? Are you kidding me? Who does that outside of California, the Southwest or South? Absolutely nuts.
Either way, we’ve had a lot to be happy about the past 10 years. It ALMOST made last Bball season bearable… I stress ALMOST.
Go BEAVERS

I still wonder...
Since they deliberated so long over whether or not to give us a shot in the tournament last year, being as we were the defending back-to-back champions – how far could we have gone, if they’d let us in? I think we had a knack going in the couple previous years to get hot at just the right time. Would have been pretty amazing if they’d given us the shot and we’d gone crazy and won 3 straight.

The SEC president was on the selection committee
And he made sure there were 6 or 7 SEC teams in the tournament. Might have even been 8. Anyways, they all pretty much failed miserably.
There were several less deserving teams in there last year and OSU had a winning record against the teams that made the CWS.
The problem was that they didn’t take the gimme games seriously. Losing to Utah Valley State (was a JC 2 years ago) and a few other “guaranteed” wins that weren’t is what killed them. But they still should have been in there somewhere.

2007 First Super Regional
I concur with basically all the above and will add this one:
2007 Super Regional vs. Michigan.
I was having big life changes with my job during the 2006 run and missed most of it,, didn’t watch one CWS game (not one!) and swore I would never miss out on following the team after that.
So no way in hell was I going to miss out on the 2007 Super Regional. We had some luck getting that one back in Corvallis and me, my dad, and brother got tickets. Brother couldn’t go to the Saturday game, but it was rained out. We all made it to the Sunday game. That freaky Michigan pitcher throwing that no hitter through nine and the Beavs looked foolish trying to figure him out, crowd getting very restless but Reyes was also pitching strong with some defense help (Darwin Barney!).
I mean the crowd was on edge! Then came the ninth, Santschi (I think?) walks and Wells pitch runs for him. I can’t even remember how Wells got to second, I think it was a sacrifice, then Wong is up, two outs. One hit, one run! Crowd explodes! I mean if Joey hit it softer it doesn’t get out of the infield, if he hits it harder the outfielder has a better play at home, it was perfect.
We all came back Monday, easy 8-2 win, mellow matter of fact celebration by the Beavs, and you just knew, you just knew…

Exactly
I was at that Monday game, and that’s when me and my dad decided we were going to make the trek to Omaha.
