This sets us up for a stretch run.

We get ASU coming off a bye and Cal the week after they play SC. UO is at Reser…

We have a chance.

Wasn't the most convincing win...

…but we’ll take it.
What was up with our secondary? I almost thought I was listening to a duck game or something.

I know it... Fouch played well, as did that receiver

That was one thing the Huskies did well from the beginning of the game… even though some of their deep passes were out of bounds or called back because of penalties.

Hell I will take any win on the road.

the Beavers are beating the teams they are supposed to beat. The game was not even that close, there are things to work on but a good solid road win in a place that used to be a temple of doom for the Beavers.

Very Solid Win

A good win for the Beavs, especially on the road, and a nice way to go into the bye week before getting ready for Ariz St.
Positives: The offense was in a great rhythm tonight. Lyle Moevao was about as efficient as a quarteback can be (except for Colt McCoy apparently) and we had several huge plays from James. I think James kind of reminded us tonight why everyone was so excited about him after the end of last year and why we shouldnt let Quizz overshadow him. The defense did a GREAT job of getting pressure on the quarterback. I give their guy credit cause he kept hanging in there but you know he will fill it tomorrow.
Negatives: Not much to complain about on the offensive side of the ball except for a quite a few penalties it seemed like. Also, I think they need to look at going down the field a little bit more and also using RYAN MCCANTS!!! In the couple of plays he came in for Quizz he looked very impressive. He is a great change of pace back to give the defense. The defense got beat several times in the secondary which concerns me against teams like Ariz St and Ariz who can both really throw the ball.
Overall though this was a great win for the Beavs and as the games keep passing and the wins keep coming, the possiblity for a Rose Bowl becomes that much more realisitic. GO BEAVS!!

I Agree

McCants is a great change of pace, but he tripped over his own feet when he could of gotten a 1st down!

i agree

james every bit as good of a player as jaquizz

How about that Rodgers!

James that is!

Good win, kind-of a boring one at times I’ll admit, but hell boring in a good way in being a in control win so I’ll take it!

Yes, how about McCants and especially that goal line dive into the endzone, wait a minute that was to get out of the endzone!

Yep on the coverage, but at the same time I don’t think it was that terrible. A good amount of those long throws were just crazy! Throw it a mile high and have the receiver make the play. But heck I guess we needed something to work on during the bye week!?!

I think I was mostly bummed that Quizz didn’t get a couple more shots at 100 yards, but the damned defense had to hold UW on the one!

Onwards, and some interesting games coming up (especially if this UA vs. Cal score holds up, 35-27 UA right now).

Quizz

I almost found myself wanting UW to get a quick score so we could give it to Quizz so he could get his 100 yards. Not that I’m in any way disappointed with the result.

I totally hear you!

But that goal line stand was awesome, especially since they could have just folded a little since a TD there would have meant very little. Playing a full 60 minutes, and that attitude will serve us well in the difficult upcoming games.

ya especially since most of the guys in there were second teamers

Sammie

Anybody else notice how mouthy Sammie has gotten this year? He looks like he’s talking a lot of shit out there.

by AnotherBeaverFirstDown on Oct 19, 2008 12:00 AM PDT reply actions

Sammie

I’m definitely not complaining about it, he’s hilarious at times. I just don’t remember Sammie being the big showboat he’s turned into.

by AnotherBeaverFirstDown on Oct 19, 2008 12:53 PM PDT up reply actions

I think a lot of it has to do with so many teams mugging him...

USC was trying to push him around, WSU was tackling him on every running play, and I think Sammie is just trying to show who’s boss out there.

He’s plenty involved in the offense, but I still wish we threw it to him more.

Cheap shot by the Fusky defense

Anybody else see that #9 for the Fuskies kick Quizz in the head?

That guy deserves a good suspension

Honestly...

I couldn’t see anything from my seat that was approximately 1000 yards behind the goalline and about 11 feet above the field.

Remind me to never sit there again.

If the Beavs can get McCants working with Quizz that would be great

Loved the play call last night, fake to Quizz up the middle then toss to James around the end. The Rodger brothers are turning into a great one two punch.

I agree, but not sure how it works for Riley's schemes

But I can’t remember any time (maybe 2000) in OSU football where we had so many options on offense that we almost seem to not know what to do with them all. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.

Lyle was spot on

One of his best games so far. Very controlled and efficient. My only complaint is that he throws to our receivers feet a lot. Sammie was visibly upset and yelling at Lyle when he had to go to the ground to catch the ball instead of hitting him in stride and letting him get the first down.

When Lyle throws across the middle, usually it is pretty low and doesn’t give our recievers any chance to get any yards after the catch. But i guess better low than too high. Lyle is still improving as a QB and im sure he’ll continue to develop.

I wouldn't mind some more McCants

Maybe a couple carries every drive to give Quizz a break. He looked like a decent HB last night and gave some punishing blows to the Huskies defense

Beaver secondary was porous....

…………………….. they gave up some big plays on underthrown balls that should have been batted or picked.

The 3 picks are deceptive, only 1 was in any sense crucial.

the problem is

our safeties are pseudo-linebackers. Laybourn and Afalava are better at rushing defense then coverage. It would be ideal if we had both a coverage guy and rushing guy starting for us.

that's where we "miss" Payton's man coverage abilities...

…but, Payton wasn’t a hardnosed player like Laybourn—I can’t imagine a scenario where Payton would be in on 10 tackles in a game.

Laybourn is great in zone coverage and tracking down flyballs. And his run support from the free safety position is pretty unique in this conference (of course, that has a lot to do with the fact that he should just switch positions with Keith Pankey—name another team with a bigger free safety than weakside linebacker).
